The client
A renewable-energy programme contracting solar output to commercial offtakers.
The challenge
Solar PPAs depend on accurate delivery data and timely payment, but meter data often passes through several systems before it reaches an invoice, and each party keeps its own records. Disputes are slow to resolve and financiers struggle to underwrite the cash flows.
What we built
We tokenized the PPAs so that contracted energy and its payments are tracked and settled on a shared ledger. Meter data flows into the platform directly, every device has its own verifiable identity, and payments between parties settle on-chain in a stablecoin. A hybrid ledger design keeps regulated workflows on a private ledger while anchoring proofs on the public Hedera network.
Main features
- IoT data ingestion from meters and inverters over MQTT, HTTP and REST
- Decentralised identity (DID) for each device, issued with W3C Verifiable Credentials so every reading traces to a known device
- PPA terms encoded in smart contracts, with delivered energy recorded against each agreement
- Stablecoin settlement between parties on Hedera
- Hybrid ledger: private for regulated workflows, public Hedera for anchoring
How success is measured
Key indicators include time from delivery to settlement, number of billing disputes, data completeness per device and the share of PPA revenue settled automatically.
Technology stack
| Ledger | Hedera public network for anchoring and settlement; private ledger for regulated workflows |
|---|---|
| Identity | DIDs with W3C Verifiable Credentials for devices |
| Data ingestion | MQTT, HTTP and REST APIs from field devices |
| Settlement | Stablecoin settlement on Hedera |
| Integration | API-first, vendor-agnostic middleware |
