The client
A 40 MW rooftop solar programme spread across multiple commercial buildings.
The challenge
The programme replaces fossil-fuel grid power with captive solar, generating emission reductions that can be sold as carbon credits. Manual monitoring and reporting across many buildings would have been slow, costly and hard for verifiers and buyers to trust.
What we built
We built the digital monitoring, reporting and verification (dMRV) and tokenization layer. Emission reductions are calculated with the approved small-scale methodology AMS-I.F using a combined-margin grid emission factor, with estimated reductions of about 52,000 tCO2e per year. Every number in that calculation traces back to a meter reading anchored on Hedera.
Main features
- Energy meters at each building record generation and consumption; readings pulled via API and written to Hedera for a tamper-proof site history
- Hedera Guardian runs the MRV policy and monitors the records
- Data exported into reports used to calculate emission reductions and prepare registry documents
- Verified reductions minted as carbon offset tokens (per tCO2e), with separate series priced through a pricing matrix to support liquidity
- Libraries and architecture for project listing and documentation with international carbon registries
- Token generation, transfer and burning (retirement) handled on-chain
How success is measured
The programme measures data completeness per site, time from monitoring period to issuance, verifier queries raised, and issued versus estimated reductions.
